Student Statement:

For the portrait assignment, I choose to create a face of a young woman. I wanted this woman to have a rich, noble and loyal like appearance. I achieved that by choosing a very stylish font called "Parchment" in Photoshop. this gives the perception of a stylish bang and curly hair. I also made them big and having them to overlaps each other to shows volume. The letters i choose for the hair were "z" and "l". They were only used to satisfy the look and the perception of a rich and fancy person. The used of the letter "u" for the eyes gives a calm and relax looks on the woman's face, as if she was at peace. The "u" also looks like her eyes is closed which also represents her confident, that she's a confident young woman. Her lips also helps shows that she's is a confident person and that she's also in a relax stage. I mostly used brackets and the number 3 to define the lips. The "3" creates an outline and gives the perception that she's is wearing lipstick which ties in with her being rich and fancy. Last but not least, a pair of earrings was added to further emphasizes the fact that she's wealthy, young and higher class.

The name of this band is called Pelasgians. Pelasgians according to Wikipedia means the people that were ancestor the Greek. Since the band is a Greek word so I decided to have the band from a country like Greece. The picture I got was like a hilly landscape and so I thought of a type of country/classical music band. Influence by my title and album picture, I this is going to be a soft rock band playing smooth, moving, and full of melodies songs. It would be more directed at older teens to young adults. To fulfill the Greek aspect of it, I decide to use French Script MT as my choice of font because whenever I see or read a word that relates to Greek I think of a fancy cursive font such like French Script MT. The name of the album is The Big Choices in Life. To reflect on more of the old, classical, fancy aspect of the band, I went with Gothic as my fonts. Even though the Gothic fonts is Roman, I still feel that old an ancient civilization like element and it's been used in rock type album cover before like in AC/DC. I also used the Gothic fonts to creates a really fancy "P" in the back  ground. I decide to make the picture looks red purple-ish in some part, darken the other, and added a red "P" to bring out the rock aspect of the band. The red "P" are the most rock like aspect and I hoped for it to balance the overall picture form too much of a country-side kind of thing.

LOGO:
To show that Young Company is fun, professional, and like a big family, I used the element and principles of design. I used line, shape, space, colour, emphasis, contrast, and balance. The line tells you the name “Young Company” and “Lakeshore C.I.”. The font that I used tells the audience that this is a modern, professional group. The big phoenix shape with “Young Company” inside tells people that they belong to the LCI family. The emphasis and contrast are directed at the name “Young Company” and the phoenix. This makes Young Company looks professional, like a family and fun.
I’m pretty satisfied with my results because I feel that this one best represent Young Company than all my other ones. If o had more time, I would finalized the texts “Young Company” and make it looks more symmetrical.
One of the difficulties I had was filling in the shape colour. The tail of the phoenix was by that problem but it turns out that I kind of like it. A technique I used was the text tools. I learn how to manipulate I to create text that curves or looks a certain way.

POSTER:
I chooses to go with a simple design of having a stole with light shining on it as the main image, the rest are just text and typographies. The element and principles of design I used were line, space, colour, contrast, emphasis, and movement. The lines are seen through typographies throughout the poster which tell the reader important information about the event. There’s a lot of negative space in the back ground because it’s mostly black. The few colours I used were black, white, and red. The red and the white brings out a contrast when place on top of a black backdrop. This also along with the fonts of the text creates emphasis and movements. Another example of movement in the poster is the dates at the bottom of the poster where it guide your eyes along to the here important dates. Its simplicity and great emphasis have given this poster a lot of liking and attractive to most audiences today.
I’m pretty satisfied with my final product because everyone seems to like it and I think I got the proportion close. The one thing that I would chance if I had more time is the spacing and centering of the numbers underneath “November”. They seem to be a bit off to the left and one side seem a little bit higher than the other.

One problem I had was the with the layer line. When I view all the necessary layers, there used to be a line between the “November” and the set of number. That line is the line caused by two different layers. I learned how to merged those two layers and add percentage of a colour (its opacity) to blur the line.  Also learned how to used variety of select tools, some harder but more accurate than other.

The elements appear in my object are lines, space, colour, texture, and shape. The principles appear in my object are repetition/pattern, emphasis, unity, and contrast. Lines outline the different parts of the earphone such as the cable, logo, and ear bud. The earphone its self are just made of different geometric shape and a repeated organic shape (the earphone logo). For example the cables are just made of squares, while the ear pieces are made of circles and domes. Colours only apply to my cloured version of the earphone. The colours bring the earphone to life and indentify the texture of the ear pieces. There is more positive space then negative space. One repeating shape I found was the Skullcandy logos which have two on each ear pieces and one for the microphone button. The emphasis of the picture was the earphone and the two part of the earphone have unity because they are from the same earphone. There’s more contrast in the black and white and the colour version. The contrast shows the different parts of the earphone making them stands out such as the logo.

For the majority of the outlines, I used the pen tool to trace it and for the circles and squares, I used the ellipse tool. I would makes layers such as “the cables” and “the left ear bud”, and then I would start making closed shape on the area I want to fill to colour. Next, I would select the shape, and select on the colour I wanted at the side bar. For my sketches, I use the same tools except the, and the addition of the stroke function (making the line thicker) and path> outline stroke (turn my thick line into a shape).

I think the coolour version is the best design because there’s more life and texture to it by adding the colours. It brings out all its visual features such as the logos throughout the entire earphone, the microphone button, and the little details like those circle indent on the ear piece. One that’s not as effective is my sketch of the earphone. It’s lacking colours or it doesn’t feel that real and there’s barely any texture to it. It’s just really plain.

This is my first tracing of the leaf guy on illustrator. The top is a JPEG and the bottom is a PNG. I notice that there's a little color differences and that PNG can be zoom in further

I chose this picture because like it the bright colours they used, the mechanical details, and the feel of the piece. The colours really helps bring out the main focus which is the robot (aka, Gundam Akatsuki). It also help show the scenery of the Gundam which is in the middle of a battle field. The mechanical details and details in general brings out the texture of the Gundam, the clouds, and the chaos that's happening. The Gundam in this piece was projected as like a savior or a god coming down to save people because of the colour gold, clouds, and the brightness of the piece.
